Guaranteed Seating

The Bay Area Book Festival wants you to feel confident that you will gain admittance to the sessions you wish to attend. If you purchase a ticket for a session, the Festival guarantees you a seat if you arrive at least ten minutes prior to the start time of that session. To ensure that space in the venue also remains available for free, day-of access to festival-goers who will wait in lines, only 50% of seating per session is available for advance purchase. So act soon!

Tickets are now available through Eventbrite. Click on the button below to be directed to the Eventbrite ticket page, or find the link next to each session on the Schedule page. Tickets may be purchased for $5.00 per session plus a small service fee that will be paid directly to Eventbrite.

If tickets sell out for a particular session, or if you would prefer not to pay the $5 to reserve a ticket, you still have the option to attend for free using the Standby option outlined below.

A number of tickets will also be provided, free of charge, to Bay Area non-profit organizations responsible for distributing them to low-income communities. For more information on how to receive free tickets for your organization, please contact

FREE Seating

The Bay Area Book Festival is committed to ensuring that our speaker sessions are accessible to anyone who wishes to attend. To that end, we are reserving 50% of the seats at each session for those who arrive at a venue without a pre-purchased ticket.

If you arrive at a session without a ticket, you will be directed to wait in the “standby” line and kept apprised whether or not it seems that a standby seat is available for you based on your place in line. Many festival attendees take advantage of the standby option. To maximize your chance of getting into a session, please see the helpful tips below:

  1. Get a copy of the program schedule and festival map on our website prior to the event. Circle the sessions that interest you and familiarize yourself with their titles, locations, and times.
  2. Try your best to reserve a 30-minute window between sessions to move between venues.
  3. Arrive 15-20 minutes early (or even earlier than that) to the venue and look for BABF staff to help you find the right session room, if necessary.
  4. If you are not notified by BABF staff about your chance of gaining admittance, feel free to wave them over and ask.
  5. If the line is long, or the BABF staff inform you that standby seats will most likely be full, don’t wait! Move on to the next session you are interested in and reserve your space in line.
