Join us at the 2019 Jaipur Literature Festival in India!

A World-Class Festival

January 22-29, 2019

The annual Jaipur Literature Festival (JLF) in India has been called “the greatest literary festival on earth,” and that’s no exaggeration. This extraordinary, five-day festival brings top writers from around the globe into riveting conversation in front of massive audiences in a picturesque Indian compound, Diggi Palace. Dancers twirl in the aisles, and riots of color dazzle amidst banners and mirrors. Every day, the Delegates—that would be you—visit literary programs and enjoy a joyous Indian buffet with the authors and fellow Delegates from around the world. “Joy” truly is the operative word at this festival. Every night brings world music and special trips to local forts and mahals. All to celebrate books! The Jaipur Literature Festival is an extravaganza for the mind and senses, a spectacle like no other, a once-in-a-lifetime literary adventure.

Detailed itinerary from Abercrombie & Kent is here.

A Special Guided Trip

At the helm of your trip is book festival expert and director of the Bay Area Book Festival (BABF) Cherilyn Parsons, who has attended JLF as a special guest four times, most recently as a speaker. With her knowledge of the ins and outs of JLF, she’ll be your unparalleled resource in Jaipur. She’s assembled a stellar team to make sure you travel in style and to guide your daily experience at the busy festival. One of the world’s leading travel companies, Abercrombie & Kent, will support your journey, with arrangements handled personally for you by Fugazi Travel’s Eve Wertsch, also a seasoned India traveler. We’ll have our own vehicle on the ground in Jaipur, along with additional tour support staff.

Become a Delegate

Because we know JLF, we can ensure that you receive all the perks. You’ll be assured a Delegate Pass with all privileges, including lunches each day in the Authors and Delegates Lunch Area.

You’ll be able to access the Authors and Delegates Dinner Area, the evening Music Stages, and two magical nights with music at Hawa Mahal and Amber Fort (subject to change by Jaipur Literature Festival).

We’re adding on a tour of Jaipur, including a camel ride, a visit to the famous Amber Fort, and a visit to a private farm house owned by a Rajput family. With our dedicated vehicle and team it’ll also be easy to add perks here and there (for instance, Cherilyn always makes a quick trip to Lassiwallah, the famous lassi stand in town).

A Luxurious Stay

We’ll stay at the Marriott Hotel in Jaipur because that’s where most of the festival authors stay. The Marriott also has a great breakfast buffet, fast wireless, and all the Western amenities, offering familiar comfort. India is an intense and stimulating place, the festival is crowded, and the whole experience is a lot to absorb. We love the Marriott as a respite where we can catch our breath.

Advice from BABF Staff

Words to the wise: While there won’t be any hiking, you should be in good health and able to walk down bumpy sidewalks with lots of foot traffic. You need to be comfortable in crowds; the festival gets extremely busy. As with any trip to India, the most important thing to pack in your bag is patience and a spirit of adventure, and you’ll be rewarded many times over. Book lover alert: Leave extra space in your bag for all the books you’ll buy!
