East Bay native Obi Kaufmann (The Coasts of California) spent his early years escaping into the mountains, mapping untamed wilderness. Tribal leader and author Greg Sarris (Becoming Story: A Journey among Seasons, Places, Trees, and Ancestors) spent his in different foster homes, eventually learning American Indian customs and tradition from a legendary Pomo basket weaver. These two celebrated scribes of California lore, magic, and memory bring to life the power of Golden State storytelling: through deeply personal memoir, evocative illustration, the tracking of environmental rhythms, and the sacredness of ancestors. You’ll be moved by what happens when the wandering paths of these two brilliant California dreamers intersect.
Introduced by Jesse Arreguín, Mayor of the City of Berkeley
