Bridging the Distance: Nicole Chung and A Living Remedy

Sunday, May 7 | 2:00 PM - 3:00 PM

The Marsh Berkeley - Theater

  • Memoir

Nicole Chung
  • Carletta Girma

Nicole Chung’s debut memoir, All You Can Ever Know, was a national bestseller and a finalist for the National Book Critics Circle Award, among other honors. Chung follows up her exquisite debut with a wrenching new memoir, A Living Remedy, written in the wake of her mother’s death from cancer in the midst of the COVID pandemic. Born in Korea, adopted by white Americans, Chung has thought deeply about cross-cultural identity; in her new memoir, she contends not only with feelings of grief at losing her adoptive parents—just as she is starting her own journey as a mother—but also at the social class and economic inequality that further delineate their generational divide. Readers will find both sorrow and solace in this open-hearted new memoir—and in Chung’s memorable conversation with Brooke Warner, publisher of She Writes Press and SparkPress.
