When the world falls apart … This session explores the effects of the global pandemic on both coasts of the Pacific. In bestselling novelist Kelly Yang’s latest standalone novel, New From Here, Knox Wei-Evans stands up to anti-AAPI racism at his new school after moving from Hong Kong to California during the pandemic. Ying Chang Compestine portrays how COVID-19 affected Wuhan in her forthcoming Morning Sun in Wuhan, which follows 13-year-old Mei as she puts her love of cooking toward a good cause by volunteering in a community kitchen. Join these two brilliant writers for a thoughtful discussion on community, resilience, and hope after a long period of being apart. Ages 8–12.
