Jonathan Escoffery, Tsering Yangzom Lama, Jens Liljestrand

Here’s your chance to meet three astonishingly talented young authors, from around the world, at the beginning of their careers—you’ll be able to boast that you saw them when! Jonathan Escoffery’s If I Survive You might be a debut, but this collection of interwoven short stories about Jamaican immigrants has already accumulated a career’s worth of award nominations, including being long-listed for the National Book Award, PEN/Faulkner Award, Story Prize, Aspen Words Literary Prize, and more. Canadian author Tsering Yangzom Lama’s We Measure the Earth with Our Bodies, a finalist for the Center for Fiction’s First Novel Prize, is a cross-cultural, cross-generational epic tracing sixty years of a Tibetan refugee family. And Swedish author Jens Liljestrand, in Even if Everything Ends, crafts an astute, personal family saga set amid climate crisis. In addition to learning about their new works, we’ll hear about these debut authors’ paths to publication and heed their advice to aspiring authors in a dynamic conversation led by Leslie Carol Roberts of California College of the Arts.
