Grounded: Exploring Muslim Identities

Sunday, May 7 | 2:00 PM - 2:45 PM

Young Readers Stage

  • Outdoor

Huda Al-Marashi, S.K. Ali, Aisha Saeed, Jamilah Thompkins-Bigelow

In the wake of a fierce thunderstorm that forces an airport to ground all of its flights, four seemingly different Muslim kids-—Feek, Sami, Hanna, and Nora—are thrust together for an unforgettable night that irrevocably changes their lives. In the collaboratively written novel Grounded, their individual and collective stories unfold through alternating viewpoints as the four learn about themselves and their Muslim identities, finding their voices in the process. Lost cats, rapping fathers, karate tournaments, and NokNok videos take the stage in this session for Grounded, featuring bestselling Muslim authors Aisha Saeed (Omar Rising), Huda Al-Marashi (First Comes Marriage: My Not-So-Typical American Love Story), Jamilah Tompkins Bigelow (Abdul’s Story), and S.K. Ali (Love From A to Z) with young moderators from Cinnamongirl, Inc. Ages 8–13.
