Publishing: Who Calls the Shots?
Sunday, May 8 | 12:30 PM - 1:30 PM- In-Person Only
Residence Inn Berkeley - Ballroom 1

- Writing & Publishing
Publishing might be notoriously resistant to change, but innovative business models, fresh ways of thinking, and new leadership might (finally?) be shifting the course of this crusty old behemoth. How have self-publishing and hybrid publishing offered authors both autonomy and responsibility? What happens when the decision-makers at traditional publishers are no longer exclusively white and male? And what about readers—have podcasts, social reading and writing networks, and new platforms (hello, #BookTok!) put additional power into their hands? Talk about star power: our panel of experts from across the industry will weigh in on these questions and many more: Angela Engel, publisher and founder of Collective Book Studio; John Freeman, executive editor at Knopf; Jaunique Sealey (pen name Jayne Allen), VP of strategy and community at Zibby Books, Traci Thomas, host of The Stacks podcast; and our moderator, Brooke Warner, publisher of She Writes Press and SparkPress.
