Romantic Roadblocks

Saturday, May 6 | 2:00 PM - 3:00 PM

Residence Inn Berkeley - Ballroom 1

  • Romance

Lily Chu, Claire Kann, Amy Spalding, Taleen Voskuni

“The course of true love never did run smooth,” and nowhere is that truer than in contemporary romantic comedies, where creative roadblocks make the journey to Happily Ever After endlessly entertaining, and the destination that much sweeter. In Amy Spalding’s celeb-centered adult debut, For Her Consideration, ghostwriter Nina has grown disillusioned by both love and art—until a gorgeous actress client reawakens old passions. In Taleen Voskuni’s SF-set debut, Sorry, Bro, Nareh rediscovers both her Armenian heritage and her bisexual identity, thanks to a bewitching new acquaintance. In Claire Kann’s adult debut, The Romantic Agenda, Joy is happily asexual—but less thrilled about losing her longtime best friend Malcolm’s affection. A fake-dating scheme might spark Malcolm’s jealousy—or it might make Joy look at a different man in a whole new light. As for Ariadne, the protagonist of Lily Chu’s The Comeback, she just plain doesn’t have time for romance—she’s too busy trying to make partner at her Toronto law firm. But love might have other plans, when a surprise houseguest sparks new feelings in this K-pop inspired rom-com. Oakland’s own Jasmine Guillory, bestselling author most recently of Drunk on Love, will guide us safely down that bumpy road to true love.
