You Are Here: Stories of Asian American Identity

Sunday, May 7 | 1:00 PM - 1:45 PM

Young Readers Stage

  • Outdoor
  • Race

Traci Chee, Mike Chen, Ellen Oh, Randy Ribay

When a TSA security incident at a teeming Chicago airport impacts twelve young Asian Americans, rumors and chaos wreak havoc on their journeys—and their lives. In their brave efforts to regain their footing, they collide and reconcile with fellow travelers, discovering the challenges and triumphs of friendship, courage, and identity along the way. In You Are Here: Connecting Flights, individual narratives written by twelve powerhouse Asian American authors intertwine in unexpected ways. In this session, we’ll hear from contributors Mike Chen (Vampire Weekend), Randy Ribay (Patron Saints of Nothing), Traci Chee (A Thousand Steps into Night), and editor Ellen Oh (Finding Junie Kim) with young moderators from Cinnamongirl, Inc. as they discuss this exciting new collaborative exploration of contemporary Asian American identity. Ages 8–12.
