Dan Brekke

Dan Brekke is a reporter and editor for KQED radio, covering topics ranging from California water to the Bay Area’s transportation and housing challenges. Dan served as an editor at the San Francisco Examiner, Wired and TechTV, and his feature reporting has appeared in Wired and The New York Times. Since joining KQED in 2007, Dan has reported, edited and produced both radio and online features and breaking news pieces. He has shared in four Society of Professional Journalists Norcal Excellence in Journalism awards, most recently for editing a series of reports on the high incidence of death among mentally ill inmates in California’s county jails. He was a spring 2017 resident of Marin County’s Mesa Refuge to research a history focusing on California salmon.
