Greil Marcus, music journalist and cultural critic, is the author of “Mystery Train,” “Lipstick Traces,” “The Dustbin of History,” “The History of Rock ‘n’ Roll in Ten Songs,” “Three Songs, Three Singers, Three Nations,” and other books. With Werner Sollors he is the editor of “A New Literary History of America” and with Sean Wilentz of “The Rose & the Briar: Death, Love and Liberty in the American Ballad.” He teaches in the American Studies program at UC Berkeley and lives in Oakland. He met Viv Albertine in London in 1991 when she was a TV director.
