Born to a refugee mother from Việt Nam and U.S. civilian contractor, Julie Thi Underwood’s work reflects competing narratives about the American War in Việt Nam. She has published oral histories, photography, poetry, and essays in numerous journals and collections, including “Troubling Borders: An Anthology of Art and Literature by Southeast Asian Women in the Diaspora,” “Veterans of War Veterans of Peace,” “Embodying Asian/American Sexualities,” and elsewhere. She holds a B.A. in Liberal Arts from The Evergreen State College and an M.A. in Ethnic Studies from UC Berkeley.
