Martha Batalha’s debut novel, “The Invisible Life of Euridice Gusmao,” takes place in Batalha’s home country, following her characters through their lives in Rio de Janeiro. Batalha studied journalism and literature in Brazil before moving to New York in 2008, where she began working in publishing. Her entry into fiction writing has drawn a great deal of international praise for her wit and humor. She lives in Santa Monica with her husband and two children.
