T. J. Stiles
T.J. Stiles is the author of three biographies, all published by Alfred A. Knopf. “Custer’s Trials: A Life on the Frontier of a New America” received the Pulitzer Prize for History, the Spur Award for Best Western Biography, and was a finalist for the National Book Critics Circle Award for Biography. “The First Tycoon: The Epic Life of Cornelius Vanderbilt” was honored with the Pulitzer Prize for Biography and the National Book Award for Nonfiction. “Jesse James: Last Rebel of the Civil War” received the Ambassador Book Award. A former Guggenheim fellow, he is a member of the Society of American Historians, the governing council of the Authors Guild, and the executive board of the Organization of American Historians. He lives in Berkeley with his wife and two children.
