Do you believe in the revolutionary power of literature? So do we. Since 2015, Bay Area Book Festival has featured the boldest and most brilliant literary voices in conversations about issues that matter, with a focus on justice and diversity.

“I’m pretty sure that everyone who attended

will agree that they will be forever changed.”

— Elizabeth Rosner, author and Festival speaker

We’re a world-class literary extravaganza taking place each year over two days in Downtown Berkeley. All our programming—250-300 authors on 15 stages—is accessible with one $15 pass, and our Outdoor Fair, a wonderland of literary vendors, kids’ activities, and family fun, is totally free. Over the years, we’ve showcased more than 1,250 speakers who come from the Bay Area, the state of California, the nation, and world; our international contingent is one of the largest among U.S. book festivals. Since our founding, we’ve thrilled more than 125,000 book-lovers of all ages.

But the magic of BABF isn’t confined to a weekend.

We also have two year-round series: Women Lit, featuring groundbreaking female-identified authors such as Gloria Steinem and Eve Ensler; and Bay Area Book Festival #UNBOUND, the virtual branch of our celebrated programming, amplifying bestselling and emerging voices across all genres (such as Jericho Brown, Michael Pollan, Anthony Doerr, and many more). #UNBOUND explores compelling topics such as voter suppression, parenting in a time of anxiety, racism, health and wellness, and more — along with brilliant literary discussions. Our children’s and young adult programs present top authors who are interviewed by youth!

“This festival is my paradise. I am moved, inspired, informed and treated to so much goodness.”
