Jane Hirshfield
Jane Hirshfield’s most recent, ninth poetry book, “Ledger,” is centered on the crises of the biosphere, social justice, and shared fates. She’s also the author of two now-classic collections of essays, “Nine Gates: Entering the Mind of Poetry,” and “Ten Windows: How Great Poems Transform the World,” and of four books collecting the work of world writers of the deep past. Her honors include The California Book Award, Poetry Center Book Award, fellowships from the Guggenheim and Rockefeller foundations, the National Endowment for the Arts, and the Academy of American Poets, and ten selections in “The Best American Poetry.” The founder in 2017 of “Poets for Science,” Hirshfield is a 2019 elected member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and a former chancellor of the Academy of American Poets.
