Kyla Zhao

Kyla Zhao is an award-winning author whose novels center women and girls of color as they navigate ambition, identity, and belonging. Her work has been featured on CBS, NBC, Good Morning America, Vogue, and Buzzfeed, and has received honors from the American Library Association, the Children’s Book Council, and the U.S. National Spelling Bee.

Kyla graduated from Stanford University in 2021 with a BA in Psychology and an MA in Communication. She has been named to Forbes 30 Under 30, recognized as a Tatler Leader of Tomorrow, and awarded a Certificate of Recognition by the California State Assembly.

In addition to writing books, Kyla has contributed to outlets such as Vogue, Harper’s Bazaar, and Fortune. She is also an experienced speaker who has given talks at organizations like Twitch, Pinterest, and Instacart on the power of storytelling.

Dan Alter

Dan Alter’s poems, reviews and translations have been published in journals including Field, Fourteen Hills, and Zyzzyva; his first collection My Little Book of Exiles won the 2022 Cowan Poetry Prize. A volume of translations Take a Breath, You’re Getting Excited, from the Hebrew of Yakir Ben-Moshe, was published by Ben Yehuda Press in September 2024, and Hills Full of Holes, a second collection of poems, by Fernwood Press in March 2025. He lives with his wife and daughter in Berkeley. He works at the Magnes Collection of Jewish Art and Life at UC Berkeley.
