The main Festival dates are May 7 & 8, but we are also offering some special events before and after the main Festival dates
We are holding a full in-person Festival in Berkeley with some of the events available for streaming
Have you saved the dates?
We’re in the middle of planning one of our most exciting Fests yet! We can’t wait to see you in person in our beloved Berkeley venues and park (with all health protocols, needless to say) — or through the virtual formats we’ll also use. Our authors will come from all over the world: from Berkeley to the rest of the U.S., the Middle East, Africa, South America, and Europe. Who says you can’t touch the world right now?
When? Soon! The 2022 Festival will be held May 7-8. (For you true book nuts: We plan to reveal the full schedule and ticketing on Friday, April 8.)
Where? Indoor author programs will fill multiple Downtown Berkeley venues. The Outdoor Fair, with at least one large adult program stage, a robust children’s area, and a couple hundred exhibitors and food vendors, will take over Martin Luther King, Jr. Civic Center Park.
Can I exhibit in the Outdoor Fair? 2022 Exhibitor Registration is now closed. Thank you to all who signed up – we look forward to your participation! For those not able to join us this year, let’s stay in touch. Exhibitor registration will likely launch in early December for our May 2023 festival. Sign up here to receive future updates.
Can I take part as an author? Unfortunately submissions for on-stage programs have closed for 2022.
Can I sponsor the event? Yes, we’d love to have you, and we offer tons of unique opportunities to connect with our engaged audience. We’ll customize a package to fulfill your specific goals, so reach out now to start a conversation.
The full schedule is now live!
If you submitted a proposal for an author or program, thanks for your suggestions! Our full schedule is now live, come take a look.

The Festival’s Outdoor Fair is a lively, immersive experience where readers meet writers and diverse communities gather to celebrate a love of books and reading. More than 150 literary exhibitors, free stages present acclaimed authors, and performances and fun activities for all ages abound.
We will continue to monitor and adhere to the current best practices to help prevent the spread of COVID-19.
- We will require Proof of Vaccination and Masks to be worn for all indoor events.
- The Outdoor Fair is held outdoors, so no proof of vaccination will be required to enter, but we encourage you to mask up for your own and others’ safety.
Volunteers are a crucial part of the Festival’s success each year. No experience is necessary and you’ll enjoy learning what is required to produce a major literary event! Sign up to receive our newsletter and be the first to know when we are ready for signups!
